VOTE FOR CHRIS HERROD FOR HEALDSBURG CITY COUNCIL!

My goal is to preserve what makes this town a great place to live and to make sure our accomplishments benefit all our residents. I was born here and I have lived here most of my life. My motivations are not guided by ambition or business ties. On this site you can find out why I believe I have the perfect combination of background, drive and experience to be an effective representative for all my neighbors. So please read on. I sincerely hope you will join me in this effort.

WHY I AM RUNNING: EXPERIENCE, VALUES, IDEAS.

In 2018 I worked to help limit new hotels, partly because many residents feel crowded out and cut off from our own downtown by visitor's interests. As a council member, I will work to deliver the benefits of our local economy to all residents, to retain the small town charm that residents and visitors cherish, and to restore opportunities for entrepreneurs who can deliver goods and services to all our residents.

I have served for over 6 years on the Parks and Recreation Commission and am now serving my second term as chair. I am proud that we have protected the Fitch Mountain and Healdsburg Ridge open spaces, and our Plaza, from invasive special events. These places are for everyone.

In years past, the City Council has too often served as an easy “rubber stamp” on new developments -and residents feel left out of the conversation. It is time to take a good hard look at the ramifications of runaway growth on our quality of life, our water resources, and our environment.

When I am in office you can expect:

  1. I will leave an open door for your ideas and I will be someone who will safeguard and reinforce transparency and public input -so that there are no more surprises. Let’s make web access to City Council meetings a snap and clear a path for more involvement from our vital Latinx community.

  2. I am committed to addressing the homelessness, water, and climate change issues that affect us all. We don’t need to just do our part. Healdsburg can lead the way with enlightened projects, such as the L&M Village and the wastewater solar array, and set an example for other communities to follow.

  3. I will wholeheartedly support and continue the movement to draw our vital Latino community (roughly 1/3 of our population) into our civic discourse, into leadership positions and into community gatherings in general. The challenges they face provide essential inspiration for many of the policies outlined on this website.

  4. I will continue to support our Community Services Department as they deliver more good times and activities, plus child care, senior services and the resources needed to look after our open spaces. I will protect the TOT (tourist bed tax) to pay for all of it.

  5. I will lead an effort to reinforce renter’s rights in order to prevent opportunistic landlords from forcing neighbors from their homes and valuable small businesses from our downtown.

  6. I will lend steadfast support for our forward-thinking Police Department and for our Fire Department whose bravery and expertise are more critically necessary than ever before.

My Town!

I was born and raised in Healdsburg, graduated from Healdsburg High, attended SRJC and graduated from Sonoma State with a BA in psychology. My dad Jack’s store, General Drug, served local families for years on the Plaza and later at the Mitchell center. Aside from my time at college (and for a few years thereafter) I have lived my whole life here. My wife Briana grew up outside Geyserville, went to HHS and works for the Sonoma County Library system. My boys Arlo and Henry are both at Healdsburg High now. My family is everything to me.
